Wesley Autrey, NY subway hero


In January 2007, 51 year old Wesley Autrey jumped between the rails of a subway line in order to hold down a man having an epileptic seizure, most probably saving his life.

A few days later he received the 'Bronze Medal' from the mayor of New York, and later that month was publicly acclaimed by President Bush in his the State of the Union address.

Having an epileptic niece himself Wesley has become an activist for the Epilepsy Foundation.

For some months Mr Autrey became the favourite of talk show hosts and received further awards. Since then he has launched a foundation aimed at saving kids from the dangers of the streets.

Over the 2008/09 holiday season Wesley had a reunion with the man he risked his life for, Cameron Hollopeter, and the two families have become firm friends.
